Licensed Tax Preparer

We are looking for a client-focused, results-oriented Licensed Tax Preparer with a high level of attention to detail and an ability to use their knowledge of federal, state, and local tax codes to prepare tax returns and ensure that clients are in compliance with applicable tax codes. A candidate must be able to project a professional company image through in-person and phone interaction.

A successful candidate has the potential to grow into a full-time position, if desired.

The position is for the period January through April 15, annually. Tax preparers work intensively from January to April.  Evening and weekend work is required during this period to complete the workload.

Duties-

  • Determine what forms to use, research allowable tax deductions, and make sure filers provide all relevant documentation
  • Work closely with supervisory personnel to meet client needs and ensure that work is in compliance with tax regulations
  • Closely follow procedures and ensure that internal compliance documentation, including checklists, are followed
  • Prepare or assist in preparing simple to complex tax returns for individuals or small businesses
  • Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures in order to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns
  • Consult tax law handbooks, research materials or bulletins in order to determine procedures for preparation of atypical returns
  • Check data input or verify totals on forms prepared by others to detect errors in arithmetic, data entry, or procedures
  • Other duties, as required

Education and Training-

  • Bachelors degree, preferred
  • Working familiarity with Lacerte, preferred
  • Up to date on continuing professional education, if required
  • Member of Oregon Association of Tax Consultants (OATC), preferred
  • QuickBooks knowledge, preferred
  • Experience with providing adjusting journal entries

Work Environment-

  • During the January to April period, tax preparers are expected to spend extended hours at work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Skills-

  • Three to five years of tax preparation experience
  • Must have excellent mathematical skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail
  • They also must be able to communicate effectively with their clients and supervisory personnel to gain a full understanding of their tax issues
  • The ability to research appropriate tax laws using online and offline reference materials, as required
  • Must be able to work rapidly, accurately, and under pressure, because they must often meet tight deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Lacerte tax preparation software, preferred
  • Ability to learn from constructive feedback
  • Ability to juggle multiple, conflicting priorities

Compensation-

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
